Obituary for John Curd
John Henry Curd, age 93 of Battle Creek, died Tuesday July 17, 2012 at the Oaks of Northpoint Woods. John was born, October 31, 1918 in Centralia, Illinois to William and Bertie (Williams) Curd. John graduated from Lovejoy High School in Mound City, Ill. He met and later married Margaret Cook on March 11, 1942 in Charleston, Missouri. John served in the US Army during WWII. He moved to Battle Creek in 1947 and was employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center from 1949 to 1980 as a Manual Arts Therapist. After retirement John was a bartender at the American Legion. John had a wonderful personality and quickly made friends. John was an avid golfer and bowler, and bowled for many years in the VA League. John is survived by nieces, Dorita Williamson of Battle Creek and Jeanette Curd of Milwaukee, WI, nephews, James Curd of Menominee Falls, WI, Reginald Johnson of Lawton, OK, and Toney Coley of Ratcliff, KY. John was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 2000 and a sister, Violet Johnson. The family will receive friends, Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd.
