Shirley Ann Perry, 78, of Battle Creek made her transition on Monday, December 2, 2019. She was born February 18, 1941 in Arlington, TN the daughter of Willie D. and Ruth (Johnson) Walker. Shirley and her family relocated to Battle Creek in July of 1951. She graduated from Battle Creek Central class of 1959. She married Leo D. Perry, Jr., with that union ending in divorce. Shirley and Leo remained the best of friends and he preceded her in death in 2016. Shirley and her family resided in Battle Creek until September 1963 where they relocated to Los Angeles, CA for fourteen years before moving back to Battle Creek in 1977. Shirley enrolled at KCC where she studied Business Administration. She volunteered her services to KCC Visual and Performing Arts Class. Her working career consisted of Calhoun County, Old Kent Bank, and several temporary agencies. After retiring Shirley served as a foster grandparent for nineteen years. She also served as an Assistant Teacher for the Battle Creek school district, working with the elementary level on academics while showing them care and compassion to make a positive difference in their lives. Shirley attended Second Missionary Baptist Church and she loved her church family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Jamal and Kerrie Perry; nephew, Keith Walker; and a host of cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 11th at 11:00 AM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Rev. William J. Wyne of Second Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI.
