Merritt Arthur Pierce, 82, of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born January 5, 1938 in Battle Creek, the son of M. Arnold and Jean (Packer) Pierce, Sr. Merritt served in the U.S Air Force and was stationed at Lowry AFB in Colorado. He began his working career with B&R Letter Shop as a printer for 22 years. Merritt retired from Palmer Envelope Company in 2002 after 10 years of service. He married Ronniemay Norton on April 24, 1993 in Union City, MI. Ronnie and Merritt attended Hickory Corners Bible Church and Gull Lake Bible Church. He and Ronnie would meet friends every Monday for coffee. Merritt had a great sense of humor and loved to joke. Every year Merritt looked forward to New Year’s Day. The whole family and neighborhood knew to come for chili at Merritt’s. He continued this tradition for 45 plus years. Merritt’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
He is survived by his wife Ronnie; children, Christopher Diamond, Pam (Brian) Ferris, Penny (Kevin) Villadsen, Beverly (Dennis) Brown, Beth (Robert) Brown, Jenifer Whicker, and Lora Clark; 25 grandchildren; 11 great grandchild; sister, Susan VanHorn; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Pierce and Jane Pierce; father-in-law, Joseph (Angie) Norton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roger Pierce and M. Arnold Pierce, Jr.; and his infant brother, Richard Pierce.
